Reincarnation Of Lama

The reincarnation of the 5th Living Buddha Dezhub was chosen through a lot-drawing ceremony in Tibet autonomous region's capital Lhasa on July 4, 2010.

The Living Buddha, a four-year-old whose secular name is Losang Doje, was selected in accordance with a regulation on the reincarnation of the Living Buddha of Tibetan Buddhism issued by the State Administration for Religious Affairs as well as historical conventions and religious rituals.

The ceremony started at around 5 am in the Jokhang Temple and lasted about an hour.

Two slips printed with the two candidates' names were separately sealed in silk bags and placed in a golden urn after being carefully examined by government representatives, senior monks and the candidates' families.

Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu, the 11th Panchen Lama and vice-president of the Buddhist Association of China, drew a silk bag out of the urn, confirming Losang Doje as the reincarnation.

Losang Doje was born on Nov 30, 2005 in Shannan prefecture's Lhunze county. His father is Gaesang Wangdue and his mother is Pema Lacong.

He was chosen as one of the candidates after several years of searching by senior monks, according to religious traditions.

The boy will become the 6th Living Buddha Dezhub after he receives the approval of the people's government of Tibet.

"I'm so honored to witness the process. Our wish has been fulfilled," said Dawa Yangzom, a Lhunze county villager, who was among the more than 100 ceremony attendees.

The 5th Living Buddha, Dezhub Jambai Gaisanggyaco, died in Lhasa on March 11, 2000 at the age 66.

Buddhist Personality : Suwicha Thakhor

Suwicha, a father of three was born on April 29, 1974 in Nakhon Phanom province, Thailand as the 2nd son of a farmer family. He has 2 siblings, a sister and a brother. He studied at an Civil Aviation Institute during his teen years but had to leave his studies after his girlfriend ( now wife ) got pregnant. He became a father when he was 18.

He was arrested on January 14, 2009 and sentenced to 10 years jail last April 3 for uploading a video containing images deemed as insults to the king of Thailand on Youtube ( no longer available ). On 28 April 2009, Reporters Without Borders wrote to Thailand’s king asking him to pardon Suwicha .Talking from prison, Suwicha told RWB:

I posted a video of the king on the Internet. The police should have told me what I was doing was wrong. It is not right to be sentenced to 10 years in prison for this. I am not a problem for the country or its security. I am in prison for nothing.” Now I’m trying to turn to Dharma, particularly the 3 characteristics of all things, Anicca (impermanence), Dukkha (suffering), and Anatta (illusion of self). I’ve been trying to seek freedom like a fish stuck in a net; the more you struggle, the tighter it gets. Looking around, I see other convicts still smile, laugh and make jokes among themselves. But I feel tortured. My wife cries. I don’t know how my children are living. I cry each time I think of them. I feel sorry for my youngest child who has yet to learn about this [lese majeste conviction] because his mother has not told him, sparing him the pain that his brother and sister have felt.

He was pardoned by King Bhumipol on 28 June, 2010 and was released the following day. A day after he was released, he went to Sirirat Hospital to pay respect to HM and gave an interview, thanking HM for showing mercy and urging all Thai to be grateful to what HM has done to the country

In an interview with Reporters Without Borders after his release,he said,

“Prison was very tough. At first I was completely shattered. I hit rock bottom. I had to fight to survive. Fortunately my family visited me often. I kept going by following the teachings of Buddhism and practising meditation. I now feel fine but I have lost my job. I will probably become a monk for a while.”

Suvicha added: “It pains me to think of the four or five other people who are still in prison on lèse majesté charges, the political prisoners and other detainees. The current situation in Thailand is very worrying. It is a difficult time for the country. I thank all those who helped me, for keeping up the pressure all the time I was held.”

Termite " Buddha "

Thousands of Vietnamese have converged on a rubber farm after the discovery of a termite's nest resembling the image of Buddha by rubber tappers in the province of Bing Duong two days ago.

The 40-centimetre (16-inch) tall nest resembles Buddha sitting in meditation posture. Visitors believe the land that the nest sits is a sacred land of Buddhism. Incense, flowers and other offerings were placed in front of the " Buddha " for visitors to pray. To protect the nest, fencing was erected in the area

Buddhist Personality : Viet Trinh

After almost 3 years away from the limelight, the sad eyes veteran Vietnamese actress/singer, Viet Trinh returns to her fans.

Q. There have been rumours that you left the entertainment scene to have a child ?

A. I have never acknowledged nor denied this before. I think it is normal for a woman to want to have child. Children bring happiness to a woman. I did not acknowledge this in the past because i wanted to spend a quiet and peaceful time with my son.

Q. Could you tell us something about your son ?

A. His name is Thien Nhan, a hyperactive boy and is almost 2 years old. He has passion for music. Each time he listens to children songs, he would sing together and start dancing away. Since he was born, i have been spending 24 hours a day with him. Besides taking care of him, watching him, laughing with him, playing with him, i also spent my time to learn more about Buddhism.

Q. How is Thien Nhan's father ?

A. This is something i want to keep to myself

Q. After being away for almost three years to spend time with your son, why do you want to return to filming again ?

A. Because i want to contribute to the society through my works and to show my gratitude for my close friends and former colleagues who have stayed with me, supported and encouraged me during my tough times. After adopting Buddhist philosophies, i understand more about the law of cause and effect, Karma. Since then i gradually changed myself to be a better person. I have learned to how leave peacefully and to be more tolerant person. In the entertainment industry, it is normal to have many people who dislike and hate us but i have learned to treat everyone well including those who don't like me. If you love the person who hate you, gradually that person's hatred will go away and eventually will lead to more love.

Q. So are you plan to 'return' by appearing in a movie ?

A. Director, Le Cung Bac has invited me to join a project of his which is an emotional modern times movie. However up to this point, i have not read the script, therefore i wouldn't want to comment further on this. I am planning to direct a movie about Karma, depicting real people in real circumstances and lives.
Q. Why do you choose the 'Law Of Karma' as the subject of your first movie ?

A. At my age, i have gone through many obstacles and setbacks in life and i think i have chosen the right direction for my movie. However, contrary to the perception of many, this movie is not a strictly Buddhist movie but about real life stories, about what these people are experiencing as the effect of their past actions.

Q. Is being a mother makes you more engross in meaningful activities with children ?

A. If you want your child to grow up well, you need to love the children of the others too. That's why i want to spend more time to do useful things for the society.

Q. About what happened in your life in the past ?

A. I remembered the days in 2001 where i was greatly misunderstood, i was extremely sad and just couldn't stop crying. I was lost and even contemplated suicide. I was insulted, i felt like i was at the end of the road. I ended up indulging myself in alcohol to forget my sadness until one day when i went to a small temple far away from the city. I was looking for peace and some luck in my life. When I stood in front of the Buddha, i felt like being given a new life again. Then i knelt before the Buddha and started to feel love inside me. In the afternoon, a monk from the temple told me that instead of hurting myself and blaming others who do not understand me, I should spend more time to love them. His words strucked me instantly. I stopped drinking and started to feel peace in my life again. I have found a true meaning of life. Since then i take refuge in Lord Buddha.
What happend to me in the past was due to the bad deeds in my past lives so from now on i will only do good things.
