Russian Buddhist Temple Raided

Dzhambel Lodoi, the resident minister of the Buddhist temple Ustuu-Khuree in the Dzun-Khemchiksky district of Tuva, is outraged by the fact that a group of unidentified armed men broke into the temple during a prayer and raided it on September 15, 2010.

"Some armed men broke into the main temple Ustu-Khuree unexpectedly and without any warning during a daily prayer at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. They shouted to force everyone to lie down, including the temple's monks. Grabbing several parishioners, the masked men took them into an unknown direction," the website of the Tuva Buddhist community said citing Lodoi.

The temple's clergy could not obtain any explanations from the masked armed men, he said.

"Moreover, we cannot even understand who these people are, as we did not see any insignia indicating their affiliation with security or law enforcement agencies. We presume that these people were from police or some other security organization," Lodoi said.

The monks were scared by the incident, he said.

The Tuva Interior Ministry later made an official statement.

"The Dzun-Khemchiksky district police department received a call from an unidentified man, possibly a parishioner, at 3:30 p.m. on September 15, 2010, who said that people with a criminal record were gathering in the Ustuu-Khuree temple. To verify this report, a group of operatives from the Dzun-Khemchiksky district police department were rushed to the scene," it said.

"In verifying the report, 42 people were taken to police to determine their identities," it said.

Policemen Arrested For Treasure Hunting In Buddhist Temple

Seven Sri Lanka police officers including an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who attempted to dig out hidden treasure in a Buddhist temple in Thimbulaagala in Polonnaruwa district were arrested at a police check post on September 20, 2010 night in Mannampiddi.

The gang had threatened the Buddhist priest of the temple and dug for the treasure but a local politician had rung the temple bell. People rushing to the temple saw the gang escaping in two vehicles without registration number plates and informed the police, sources in Batticaloa said. The arrested police officers are detained in Polonnaruwa police station for further investigation.

The arrested police officers are attached to Vaakarai police station in Batticaloa district.

The gang had managed to dig three feet deep when the local politician rang the bell alerting people of the area.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the vehicles used by the gang belong to Vaakarai police station.

Meanwhile, it is alleged that digging for treasures in Vaakarai and Thaanthaa Malai have been carried out with the assistance of Sri Lanka police.

Buddhist Personality : Karen Terzano

Karen Terzano is a 59 year old Zen Buddhist monk currently on a 740km walking journey from Maine to New York. She started her journey on August 1, from her home in Ellsworth and is expected to reach her final destination, a Zen center on Manhattan's Upper West Side by mid October. An experienced long distance hiker, Terzano carries with her a one person tent on her 29 pound pack.

On a typical day, she’ll start looking for a place to stay in the town she plans to reach. She’ll go to the municipal office or the police station or a nearby church to ask about potential places to stay or where it would be okay to pitch her tent.

Terzano, who is a naturalist, a psychologist and has been practicing Zen Buddhism since the late 1980s, explained that there were many of different things that all came together to inspire her to take this walk, but one in particular was having one of her friends die of a heart attack while they were walking El Camino de Santiago earlier this year.

China's Got Talent

First we had Britain's Got Talent, then America's Got Talent, then followed by several other countries. The latest addition to this competition is China's Got Talent which premiered on July 25, 2010.

Already this competition has seen some very talented aspiring entertainers but one that stands out is Liu Wei who is armless but plays piano brilliantly. He has already made it to the final. Here are two videos of him telling viewers about his past, his determination and finally his piano playing skills with his feet. He not only plays the piano but also sings and composes song as well as swimming. He won two gold medals at the National Swimming Competition for the disabled in 2002 and would have made it to China's national team for the 2008 Paralympics if he had not came down with an immunological disease. His statement that " nobody says piano must only be played with hands " was very true.

Also from the same competition is a 23 "dwarf" woman, Zhu Jie who still possesses a voice of a little girl. Her boyfriend is also a "dwarf" who is a year older than her. The lady judge whose song she sang asked the boyfriend what he loved her the most, he said 'everything about her'

Mick Jagger Practices Buddhism In Laos

Sir Mick Jagger reportedly blacked out the windows of his hotel room so he could "regenerate" himself.

The Rolling Stones rocker spent a week in Luang Prabang in Laos, South East Asia on his own.

The star was said to be keen to have a spiritual trip which is why he decided on solitude, and was so determined not to be disturbed he covered up the windows of his hotel suite.

He also ate in a separate area to other guests.
"Mick booked two rooms in the hotel - one for himself, the other for his luggage," a source told British newspaper The Sun.

"His room boasts the best view overlooking the mountains and Phousi Temple. But he then blacked out all the windows, even though the hotel is in a remote location and away from prying eyes. He clearly wanted to be at one with himself.

"Mick uses the trip to regenerate himself. He spent hours with monks in the temples and chanted with them. He practises Buddhism and meditation every day. He says it's the first thing he does when he gets up in the morning."
The 67-year-old has been to Laos before, and it is thought he feels a spiritual connection with the area.

He has reportedly said it is his "favourite place in the world", and he makes an effort to stay in lots of different places so he sees all aspects of the country.
