Jigme Khesar Namgyal is the current King of tiny Himalayan Buddhist kingdom of Bhutan. He is the son of the previous king Jigme Singye Wangchuk who is his father. In 2005, Jigme Singy decided that he would passed the throne to his son, Jigme Khesar but wanted his son to be prepared before being proclaimed as the 5th King of Bhutan. In December 2006, he abdicated and handed over his duties and responsibilities to his son. Since 2006, Jigme has been assuming the role of a king but his coronation was delayed as the century old Wangchuk dynasty waited for astrologer to give an auspicious date.
Jigme Khesar is a western educated man, having studied in the US and finally graduated from Oxford University with a Master of Philosophy In Politics. He brought fresh and idealistic ideology into his country, intergrating modernity and respect for traditions into Bhutanese politics. In January 2008, Bhutan held its 2nd of 2 regional elections for the upper house of the new government and the King encouraged the participation of all Bhutanese people as according to him, democracy is meaningless without the participation of his people. This 28 years old King and his handsome disposition has charmed many people, not only in Bhutan but in overseas as well.
On the 6th November 2008 ( just two days ago ), Jigme was officially coronated as the 5th King Of Bhutan, making him the youngest monarchy in the world.
